What are You Waiting For? PDF Print E-mail

Are you waiting until you feel worthy of God to begin a relationship with Him?  Maybe you're just too busy right now.   Or maybe you're waiting to 'feel' like you need God.  Whatever EXCUSE you have is just that.

Many people are waiting to have a relationship with God until they feel worthy or righteous.  They tell themselves they have to do some things first like:

  • Quit drinking
  • Stop smoking
  • Quit watching dirty movies
  • Give up their lifestyle
  • Get married
  • Stop gossiping, and so on.

It is completely backward to think you have to get yourself in order before you come to God.  It's like saying you'll hire a housekeeper once you get the house clean... doesn't make much sense.  Maybe you're thinking that you're not ready for God to see you the way you are.  Well, newsflash here, he already sees you just the way you are. ( Proverbs 15:11  )  He knows the mistakes you've made and He loves you anyway.  ( Romans 5:8 ) He also knows that even with a relationship with Him you still won't be perfect and you will still make mistakes - and He will love you anyway!

With God in your life you'll have a partner, an awesome partner, to help you through.  If you're a mess, that's OK. ( Ephesians 2:8 )  Go to God as the mess that you are and He will help you clean yourself up.  If you wait until you think you are good enough for God it will never happen.  We all fall short of the glory of God, and always will.  ( Romans 3:23 ) But through His grace we can have a relationship with him and enjoy life.

Too Busy?

Perhaps you're just too busy to spend any time on your real life, your spiritual life.  That's unfortunate because God is never too busy for you, and He has a lot more on his plate than you do, I'm sure.  Let me ask you this, if you get hit by a bus right now, what will happen to you?  Will you be on the eternal elevator to the sub-level wishing you had rearranged your priorities to include God?

Have you ever heard of anyone on their death bed saying "I wish I hadn't spent so much time getting to know the love of God and I wish I had spent more time working or at the casino." ?  No, I've never heard that either.  So doesn't that tell us, just as God did, that at the end of the day the things of this world aren't nearly that important.  But your eternal future is. ( Mark 8:36 )  If you're waiting to have time just stop and make time.  It's the best investment you'll ever make.

Whatever it is...

Whatever you are waiting for before you get to know God, please remember that salvation is a limited time offer.  You don't know how many days you have left and which one could be your last.  Don't spend eternity regretting your decision to procrastinate.
