Unconditional Love PDF Print E-mail

God loves you unconditionally; all the time, without regard to what you have done or what you are currently doing.  He loves you like a father loves a child because He IS the Father and you ARE his child.  His love is everlasting. (Jeremiah 31:3 )  Is your love for God unconditional?

Or do you love God more when He's giving you what you want and what you *think* you need?

It's easy to forget that God knows what we need and He wants us to be happy.  Sometimes, as the Father, He has to make us 'eat our vegetables' (so to speak) for our own good even though we may not appreciate His wisdom at the time.

When God isn't giving us what we want immediately we can go one of two ways:

The way of Selfishness:
To God we say "When are you going to fix this" and "Why won't you help me"

To others we say "Well it's just not getting any better" or "I've asked God to help, but I'm not seeing anything" or "I'm just not meant to be happy"

To ourselves we start to think (oh no!) maybe we don't deserve what we're waiting for and maybe even question God's love and plan for us.

The way of Love:
To God we say "Lord, I know that you know what I need and that you will always provide me with whatever I need.  I believe that you want me to be happy. (John 10:10 )  I know that whatever comes my way you will use for my good. (Genesis 50:20 )  While I might be going through the wilderness right now, you are leading me to the promised land."

To others we say "I've handed that problem over to God. (1Peter 5:7)  He'll do what's best and I'm ready and willing to do whatever He tells me I need to do when the time comes.  In the meantime, I'm happy regardless of my circumstances." (Philippians 4:12 )

To ourselves we think how fortunate we are to have a living loving God!  We are grateful and thankful for all the blessings we do have and patiently await the blessings to come.  We stop trying to figure out God's plan and understand His wisdom and simply trust that He knows what He's doing.

I strongly suggest you choose the way of love.  God is love (1John 4:16)  Choosing love is choosing God and that's the way we should chose to go every time.  Jesus said the two most important commandments are to love God and love your neighbor. (Matthew 22:37-40 )

In 1Corinthians 13:6 Paul says that love rejoices in truth, but not in evil.  So you can chose the way of love and rejoice in the truth's of the God's Word or you can listen to the lies the evil one tells you and be confused, frustrated, condemned, and miserable instead of rejoicing.  Seems like an easy choice!  ...By the way, 1Corinthians 13 tells us a lot about love and since God is love it tells us a lot about God - read it!)
