Nothing was before God.  The simple answer is that God has always been and always will be.  Time is an element within our universe, an element God placed in the Universe when He created it.  God exists outside of our universe and therefore outside of time.  He can see all the days of the world as we might see pages of a book.

You were 'created' by God through your mother and father, and they by their mothers and fathers, all the way back to Adam and Eve.  Adam and Eve were created by God.  God is the beginning, there is nothing before Him.  Otherwise we must beleive in infinite regression, which requires infinite causes leading to God.  God has no cause (nothing caused him to exist) and required no creator.  He IS the creator of all.
